Pengarah Eksekutif Suaram, Cynthia Gabriel berkata, media arus perdana di negara ini cuba menggelapkan berita mengenai skandal Kapal Selam Scorpene yang kini di peringkat perbicaraan di Mahkamah Perancis.
Katanya, kecuali media dalam talian seperti Malaysiakini, dan akhbar alternatif seperti Suara Keadilan dan Harakah, media lain tidak menjadikan kes berkenaan sebagai berita utama. Walhal katanya, perbicaraan kes berkenaan sangat penting kerana melibatkan rasuah, penyelewengan, salah guna kuasa dan wujudnya kes pembunuhan.
Beliau berkata demikian ketika mengadakan sesi taklimat berhubung kes Scorpene di Ibu Pejabat PKR, 27 Jun lalu. Dalam pada itu Cynthia berkata, tahap kesedaran rakyat Malaysia mengenai kes Scorpene yang dibicarakan di Mahkamah Perancis, juga masih rendah.
Dari kajian yang dijalankan Suaram dan Merdeka Centre, hanya 52 peratus rakyat Malaysia yang sedar kes tersebut sedang dibicarakan di mahkamah itu. Katanya dari bancian tersebut, kaum Cina memiliki kesedaran 62 peratus, diikuti kaum India 46 peratus dan Melayu 40 peratus.
